Stepping Out

1A social network is defined as a set of people, organizations, or groups that are linked together through contacts, such as friendships, information-exchange, and other forms of interactions, in order to achieve the desired outcomes. These involve the need to partake in the experience.

Participation in social networks involves sharing expertise, resources, and information. It also includes sharing interests, beliefs, and visions in life. These could be through different channels of communication and collaboration. The church can be a form of social network because it shares knowledge about the Bible. Members share the common love for God and the desire to serve Him, as well as the great commission for advancing the kingdom of God.

However, the difference is members of the church, who are fishers of men and disciples of Christ, are not contended in their own group. Christians have a calling to reach out to non-believers, just like Jesus did. They are called to have a relationship with them and to show them who Jesus is. This is not to say to be yoked with them. However, there is a need to step out of one’s comfort zones in order to fulfill the commands of God to go and be fishers of men.

In the Book of Matthew, we can see this: “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds”’ (Matthew 11:19, NIV).
